In the Heart of Darkness

The Tigress travels the dark waters of the Zarkheba river, whose mysterious shores are covered by gloomy jungle. The Queen of the Black Coast knows that, beyond the tangled wall of vegetation, an ancient city may yet hide fabulous treasures. But legends speak of hauntings, and the local tribes carefully avoid the area.

After many hours spent sailing in a supernatural silence, Conan spots the black fangs of towers stretching above the trees. Choked by overgrowth, the ruins exude decadence and desolation.

Not heeding the superstitious warnings of her men, Bêlit disembarks with her Cimmerian lover, Shevatas, and a few reluctant crewmen. In an abandoned crypt, they discover a handful of colorful gems and a strange curved knife, spurring them to press deeper into the ruins.

In the center of the city they come upon a small fortress, its broken-down towers and crumbled walls held together by thick vegetation. Only then do they hear the echoes of a voice from beyond the grave: “Return my belongings, heathen profaners, or I shall drench the altar of Set with your blood!” Skuthus’ trap has been sprung.

Objective

To win the game, the Heroes must kill Skuthus before the end of turn 8.

Setup

The game starts with the Heroes’ turn.

Shuffle Activation tokens , , and and keep them facedown near the Book of Skelos. These tokens will be added to the Book of Skelos over the course of the scenario.

After setup, each Hero moves 4 gems from their Reserve zone to their Fatigue zone.

Asset Deck

Chests require a complex Manipulation with a difficulty of 2 to open. The Asset deck contains: Life Potion x2, Explosive Orb x2, Yuetshi Knife.

Event

Wicked Incantation: Perform the following actions in order:

  1. Add 1 Hyena and 1 Bossonian Archer to each reinforcement area .
  2. Randomly draw one of the facedown Activation tokens placed near the Book of Skelos during setup. The corresponding monster (see Petrified Monsters) is freed and can now activate and be attacked. Activate this monster and add its Activation token to the Fatigue zone in the Book of Skelos. Once all three monsters are freed, ignore this step and instead activate Skuthus.

Special Rules

Game Board Rules: Standard game board rules apply.

Yuetshi Knife: When a Hero attacks Khosatral Khel with the Yuetshi Knife, Khosatral Khel’s Armor value becomes 3 for that attack.

Skuthus: Has the spell Set’s Bite. When Skuthus activates, either by the Event or his standard activation, he performs the following actions in order:

  1. Move towards the Target Hero.
  2. Attack Target Hero (if possible).
  3. Cast Set’s Bite on Target Hero (if possible).

Mystical Protection: Skuthus cannot be wounded until the Dark Demon, Outer Dark Demon, Khosatral Khel, and the Giant Snake have been killed.

Might Seeks Might: The Dark Demon, Giant Snake, Outer Dark Demon, and Khosatral Khel target the Strongest Hero.

Petrified Monsters: The Outer Dark Demon, Giant Snake, and Khosatral Khel are petrified and cannot activate or be attacked until they are freed via the Event tile.
